Our journey
2013
From idea to first client
Sam saw that trust and corporate service firms were constrained by clunky, outdated systems that made everyday work more complex than it needed to be. He founded PlainSail to change that – a modern platform built around clarity, usability and the real needs of fiduciary firms.
2014
Rob Kent joins as co-founder
Rob brought deep experience in large-scale enterprise software development, strengthening PlainSail's engineering foundation and accelerating the path from concept to production-ready platform.
2015
Elliot Hamlin joins board of directors
Elliot joined the board, bringing strategic oversight and industry experience to help guide the company’s growth.
2019–2022
Organic growth, every client through referral
Word of mouth only. Clients refer clients. The platform expands: accounting, billing, compliance, documents, workflow – six integrated modules spanning the full trust lifecycle.
2023
First integrations
We add integrations with KYC360 and LSEG World-Check, giving clients direct access to screening without leaving the system.
2024
WealthBriefing Award & ecosystem expansion
PlainSail named Best Overall Wealthtech Provider. Three new integrations go live – MeshID Verify and Verify by Tiller for identity verification, and EWG for direct transactional data – further extending the platform’s reach.
2025
Platform Provider of the Year
Back-to-back WealthBriefing wins. Landytech, IGOR, and JFSC API integrations launch, extending connectivity across investment reporting, fund administration, and regulatory submissions.
2026
What’s next
Continued platform development, expanded integrations, Enhance Group integration, AI development into core workflows, and growing presence across international trust centres and offshore jurisdictions.

Sam has a software engineering background with deep expertise in trust administration technology. He founded PlainSail in 2013.
Rob Kent
CTO
Rob is the principal architect behind the PlainSail platform. Responsible for the technical vision and system architecture.

Senior Developer
Magdil is an experienced developer with more than 15 years’ experience building enterprise platforms across a range of industries, with the past 10 years focused on the trust and corporate services sector.
Sophie Campbell
Head of Client Strategy
Sophie joined PlainSail in 2024, bringing over 13 years’ experience in the TCSP industry. She combines deep sector expertise with a practical, client-first approach, working closely with both clients and the team to shape enhancements and refine functionality.
Howard McDonald
Senior Developer
Howard has over 20 years’ experience in technology, data and software development. Relocating from the UK to Jersey in 2012, he has since gained numerous tech qualifications and a 1st class degree in Computing and IT from the Open University. Howard has two children and enjoys travel and fitness.

Jeannine has sixteen years of experience in finance with considerable trust bookkeeping expertise.

Paul has fifteen years developing trust administration software before joining PlainSail. Deep understanding of the operational requirements that underpin every module.

Dane was previously managing director of an IT managed service provider. He leads client implementations, data migrations, and onboarding from first conversation through go-live.
